DAY 24...Lewis and Clark

We went to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Learning Center here in Great Falls and caught one of the many films that were offered and a talk by a forest ranger; in addition to the many exhibits and photos on display throughout the center. It was all done very well, and the gift shop had a wealth of books on all aspects of the journey for those that want more in depth information.

There was a handmade quilt that was a commemorative of the Lewis and Clark adventure

We ran into Greg, Missy and the children there as well and it seemed everyone was enjoying the Center. Afterwards Chuck and I took a 17 mile bike ride on the River Edge Bike Trail which went along the Missouri River throughout Great Falls and we had perfect weather for it.

There are a series of 5 dams along the Missouri River in the Great Falls vicinity. Sadly, because of the dams one cannot see the cascades that Lewis and Clark had to deal with which ultimately resulted in their being forced to portage their river equipment 18 miles around the treacherous section of the Missouri river. The Center had a good display of how they managed to get the boats 18 miles up river by land.

During our bike ride, we crossed the river and I got a good shot of Chuck while he was busy getting one for himself.
