DAY 21...Yellowstone and Old Faithful

The temperature dropped to a precipitous 29 degrees during the night, but we stayed nice and warm by using the extra sleeping bag whose sole purpose was to go on a backpacking trip several weeks ago (which was cancelled). By throwing it on top of what we already had, we had a nice and toasty evening. It will come as no surprise that we were able to pack the tent in less than 30 minutes, once we woke up and realized that it was hovering around 30 degrees. We rode to Colter Pioneer Grille, just a few miles up the road and stuffed ourselves with a terrific buffet breakfast.

The picture does not do it justice, I went for seconds. The coffee was the best I have had on the trip, so I finally stopped at four cups. You have to draw the line someplace!

Along the way we experienced a unique phenomenon the clouds were actually BELOW the mountains and in some cases below the trees. Anyway, I thought it looked worthy of a picture on my blog so here it is!

We left the Grant Tetons and entered Yellowstone National Park and FINALLY saw lots and lots of wildlife. I never thought I would see too many bison, but today I may have!

We also saw Old Faithful Geyser and several Mud Pots. You really have to be here to truly appreciate them for the spectacle that they are.

They have brought back the Big Yellow Buses, here is one now...

After we made the lower loop and secured a campsite, we went for dinner at the Lodge at Lake Yellowstone Hotel, where we feasted on a gourmet dinner of Beef Tenderloin and Salmon Fettuccine.
