Last night was pretty cold but we managed alright. Nothing like having a thick down filled sleeping bag and hand-knit beanie hat to keep you cozy though most any nasty weather! We are at Milepost 64 just a little shy of half-way!
This site is special because of the cliff formation in the background a little further down river. It has a hole in the upper left corner of it...look closely!
Scott is walking down from the campsite area toward the cooking section by the river; the cliffs in the background have the hole in the upper left corner.
We paddled down the river a bit more and took a nice hike through a slot canyon and got some fantastic pictures! The trails were not well marked and at times we seemed to be a bit lost, but it all worked out OK and a good time was had by all!
Half a mile into our hike and we found the slot canyon, it go narrower and narrower. Till it was finally blocked by a huge boulder. That required us to chimney up the 'slot' and over the boulder to finish the hike. A new experience for me!
Chuck is showing the others the way to the slot canyon.
At the top we could see some gorgeous white cliffs and formations on both sides of the river, one fantastic view after another!
On the last half of the hike we came upon some really interesting rock formations; they appeared to by sliced or puffed or just layered. It was a great experience to see them!
We had hot dogs and brats for dinner and Scott, a fellow canoer, cooked them up perfectly!
