Our first day of the canoe trip down the Missouri Breaks begins in Fort Benton, MT. We stayed last night at the Fairgrounds camping location right on the river for an early morning launch today. The weather is cooperating; just a little cool and perfectly clear skies. Chuck is providing clear instructions on exactly which way we will be paddling for the next seven days.
The Missouri River is a bit deceiving; it is mostly quite wide but not as deep as you might think(in certain places)
Here is the tent camping area that we stayed. We had the entire place to ourselves; except for the distant brays of a donkey in the middle of the night and the whinny of a horse from the fairgrounds.
We had the opportunity to see a little bit of the downtown before we launched and learned about the faithful dog called "Shep" the story and memorial follow:
We also had a few moments to see the Interpretive Center in Fort Benton and the short film on the Lewis and Clark Trek through this part of Montana. The Missouri River is a bit deceiving; it is mostly quite wide but not as deep as you might think(in certain places)
