We finished packing the van and hit the road at 5:45 AM this morning for our extended trip. It was foggy and there were innumerable mosquitoes that hitched a ride with us. Fortunately, we were able to evict or squash them before too long. Only one left a red stain when squished against the window. Don't know which (if either) is the 'lucky' one.
We drove for a while and stopped in a small city called Dixon, Illinois and discovered that President Reagan had spent some time there as a child.
We also found a terrific family place for breakfast...we both ordered the skillet and it had eggs, hashbrowns, onions, peppers, sausage and cheese along with toast and coffee. Needless to say, we skipped lunch.
We stopped in Topeka, Kansas for the night. Had dinner at On the Border then discovered a great biking trail right in the middle of town. We rode 10 plus miles and finished just as it started to get dark. There were a lot of extras for the townsfolk, swimming pool, skating ramps, tennis courts, baseball fields, a bmx course and likely other goodies further along the trail, but we had to stop.

Hi Ellen!
Just wanted to check in on your travels. I now am hungry for a yummy breakfast!
And thank goodness the projectile was stopped by the windshield.
On the home front, KC Bird is doing well. He has not fully integrated into our little aviary just yet but he is an absolute delight! His little cheep is adorable. He actually flew to me from the living room to the kitchen. Lauren said that is a sign that he likes me. The other birds are aware of his presence and have not pestered him too much. Every morning, Monte (the first to arise) is greeted by the gentle jingles by KC Bird. Quiet and sweet time.
I'll keep checking in on you. Rest assured your baby is being loved!
Gail
